The Round Gentle Roman Hazelnut DOP is a true jewel among the hazelnuts produced in Italy. Recognised and widely appreciated for its superior quality, this variety represents the pinnacle of national production and stands out for its unmatched quality and flavour.

Cultivated mainly in the Cimini Mountains, near Caprarola and Lake Vico, the production area has expanded significantly in recent years to include the province of Viterbo and Lazio. Together with the Nocchione and Tonda di Giffoni varieties, the Roman hazelnut belongs to the Corylus Avellana species, a symbol of quality and tradition.

The Round Gentle Roman Hazelnut DOP is characterised by its spheroidal shell, light hazel in colour, medium in size and sparsely hairy, enclosing a medium-small seed densely packed with fibres. The Round Gentle Roman Hazelnut, on the other hand, is characterised by a shell with a slightly pointed tip, hazelnut in colour and decorated with numerous stripes, enclosing a seed of variable shape, covered with fibres, with a crunchy texture and a fine, persistent flavour.

With its recent recognition as a DOP, the Round Gentle Roman hazelnut has become a precious ingredient for the confectionery industry, essential in the preparation of chocolate and traditional sweets. Locally, it is a key ingredient in the famous traditional sweets of Viterbo, such as tozzetti, amaretti, brutti e buoni and panpepato.

Its growing popularity underlines the importance of choosing high quality ingredients to enrich the recipes of Italian cuisine, making the Round Gentle Roman Hazelnut DOP a symbol of excellence and national pride.
