The seeds selected by our producer are sown between April and May on land that has previously been prepared for cultivation. In fact, sesame is planted before other vegetables, thus benefiting from the organic fertiliser used for these crops. This is a Slow Food and organic product.

Ispica sesame, grown by the "Gghjugghjulena" Association, is fascinating because it's grown in a region with great soil and weather. The fields are between Ispica, Scicli, Rosolini, and Noto and cover about 20 hectares across the provinces of Ragusa and Syracuse. The area is known for its loamy-clay and deep soils, which provide a great environment for sesame to grow. The hot summers typical of Sicily are just right for the sesame seeds to mature, which makes the final product taste and quality so good. Growing sesame in these areas is not just an agricultural practice, but also a tradition that has been passed down through generations. It shows how connected the land and local culture are.
